Pandora Jewelry is a very popular modern jewelry brand and one of the competitors to 

Trollbeads in the "mix and match charm" market. 

 

                                           History

 

Pandora began in 1982 as a small jewelery shop in Copenhagen, Denmark. Initially they 

imported jewelry manufactured by others, however eventually they decided to create their 

own designs. In 1996 designers Lone Frandsen and Lisbeth Larsen began work to prod-

uce a unique and distinctive style for the company's products. In 1999 the Pandora charm 

bracelet was launched and became an instant hit. 

From its initial Danish beginnings Pandora has now grown into a global brand with many 

followers in Europe and the US. The head office remains in Copenhagen whilst the com-

pany also has around 100 workers in the US and 1000 in its Thailand factory. 

 

                                       The Bracelet

 

The Pandora concept is based around a patented threading system that allows different 

beads and charms to be arranged in any order and still move freely on the bracelet. Fix-

ed beads divide the bracelet into three sections, ensuring the that beads don't all clump 

together in one place. The bracelet clasp is designed to look like a bead as well, resulting

in seamless look to the finished bracelet. The base bracelets are available to buy in either

 silver, oxidised (dark) silver or gold. Chain and clasp can be of different metals. 

 

                                        The Charms

 

There is a staggeringly large variety of charms available for the Pandora system currently 

over 600. Many are made from precious or semi-precious materials including silver, gold, 

and pearl. You can also buy beads made from Venetian Muranoglass, cubic zirconia and 

other manmade materials. Themes for beads in the Pandoracollection range from animals 

and flowers through to music and sport. As with most such products some beads are "reti-red" every so often at which point they may becomeof even more interest to collectors.
